Justice Charles Agbaza of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja, has adjourned the ongoing trial of former National Security Adviser, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd), to October 31, 2025, to enable the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) regularise its list of witnesses.
Dasuki, who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan, is facing a 32-count amended charge bordering on criminal breach of trust and money laundering to the tune of ₦33.2 billion. He is being prosecuted alongside a former General Manager of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Aminu Baba-Kusa, and two companies — Acacia Holdings Limited and Reliance Referral Hospital Limited.
One of the charges alleges that while serving as National Security Adviser in November 2014, Dasuki dishonestly diverted ₦10 billion — equivalent to $47 million and €5.6 million — purportedly meant for special security services, to fund the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential primary election.
During Tuesday’s proceedings, an EFCC operative, Adariku Michael, testified that the Commission began investigating the case in 2015 following intelligence on large-scale fund transfers from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) between October 2014 and April 2015.
However, counsel to Baba-Kusa, Solomon Umoh (SAN), objected to Michael’s testimony, arguing that his name was not on the EFCC’s original witness list. In response, O. Atolagbe, counsel to the EFCC, stated that the witness had previously testified before the Chief Judge and had already submitted documents relevant to the case.
Atolagbe also noted that the case has lingered for nearly a decade, prompting the EFCC to request additional time to update its witness list — a motion that was not opposed by the defence.
Justice Agbaza granted the request and adjourned the matter to October 31, 2025, for continuation of trial.
